"Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes it rains" Crash Davis (From the movie "Bull Durham")
Well today is a rainy day. On the surface many may say that is bad. However my beautiful and brilliant parents have been teaching me about weather and how rain and warm weather have a way of turning our neighborhood into a beautiful wonderland. I have already noticed a difference as the trees are sprouting leaves and the grass is getting greener. As for the the quote I led off with today, I think it is a pretty cool one. Over luch today my amazing dad and I chewed the fat about this very quote. I had 8 delicious ounces of similac formula. My dad chose to eat a Turkey and cheese sandwich. He told me it was delicious. I just can't see how anything could possibly taste better then breast milk from mommy or some aromatic formula. That is a debate that will have to wait for another day. According to dad the quote comes from the movie "Bull Durham" When I get much older my dad said we could watch it together. He said it is rated 'R' which I guess means is to cool for this infant to watch. So my old man went on to explain that the character responsible for the aforementioned quote is Crash Davis. He was a career Minor Leaguer. Not quite good enough for the pros but not lacking in talent or moxie. He refused to hang it up and coach like many self respecting former players do. As dad has told me before baseball relates to life in many ways and this quote in particular. Dad said that the quote means Sometimes in life things are going to go so great and your team (family/friends) cannot lose no matter what you do. People sometimes call this being in "The Zone" you can't explain it you just wish you could live your life here. At other times your team (family/friends) go through hard times. Sometimes these hard times may seem almost unbearable. Then there is the last part of the quote. "and sometimes it rains" This part means that in life at times the rain is going to come. Sometimes the game/life is going to delayed or canceled for the day. This part parallels life is that even when it is raining some good can come from it. In the movie the Durham Bulls bond with their day off and then proceed to get back on a winning streak. Here in the real world the life brings things to life. So on this rainy day I say make the most of it, and just think of the beautiful flowers that these showers will eventually bring. Time for that delicacy I like to call Similac. Mmmm Mmmm good Asher
